KAMARI × moja
Calligraphy and painting are accompanied by sound. Sound is emitted “no matter what” when the brush or ink is dropped onto paper or canvas. However, the reality is that they are silent and are categorized as timeless. We are taught to believe that a painting is complete when it is framed and displayed on the wall, but is this really the case?
Even if the word “live” is not used to refer to live painting, the ongoing term “painting” should be considered “live” enough.
This project is an entertainment that challenges such assumptions and common sense about calligraphy. This is not a typical collaboration of painting to music.
The sharp vibrations of sound emanating from the calligraphy itself, created by Kamari Maeda, will raise tension and excitement, and run through the audience’s skin and into their five and six internal organs. And the floor was continuously shaken by the explosive sound of moja, who, as the standard-bearer of noise-rock, has made festivals all over the world go crazy beyond words.
The phrase “stillness and movement” is often used, but this one redefines the definition of a live performance with a strong contrast of “sharpness and explosion.
This performance, which stirs the independent creativity that artists are supposed to possess, will go beyond the seas and continue to break down the common boundaries of genres scattered throughout the world. This premium stage will be presented at Sakuradai Pool for a limited number of 70 people.
The sound and visuals will surely be imprinted on those of us who shared the space with them afterwards.
